EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Founded in 1987, the mission of the Batten Disease Support and Research Association (BDSRA) is to be an international support and research networking organization for families of children and young adults with an inherited neurological degenerative disease known as Batten Disease. The BDSRA provides information, supports families and promotes research both in the United States and internationally. For more information, please visit www.bdsra.org.

JOB SUMMARY:
The Executive Director is directly accountable to the Board of Directors and is responsible for leading and managing the BDSRA daily operations, direct programs, and lead fund-raising efforts. An understanding of scientific research, drug development and government regulations as they affect drug discovery is a plus. The BDSRA office is currently located in Reynoldsburg, Ohio. Location of the position is negotiable.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Manage daily operations of organization
• Lead fundraising efforts and diversify current revenue stream
• Supervise staff and oversee all aspects of human resource management
• Prepare and monitor annual budget
• Build and maintain external relationships and partnerships with donors, researchers, medical providers, governmental organizations, biopharmaceutical companies, and other Batten disease non-governmental organizations.
• Oversee planning of annual family conference
• Develop and implement communications strategies
• Work with the Board of Directors to create and meet short and long term strategic goals

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor degree required
• 5+ years of executive non-profit management and fund-raising experience
• Outstanding communication skills, including public speaking
• Superb interpersonal skills and the ability to build productive relationships
• Demonstrated sensitivity to working with families affected by a serious disease
